Article from July 2022 Issue of Westside Stories, Leeward Coast Newspaper (submitted by God-Daughter & SHCW Parishioner, Eva Galariada-Rosa)
Bernice Medeiros Cordeiro celebrated her 100th birthday on April 19 with her proud family and friends and received a congratulatory certificate from the Hawai'i State Legislature commending her on her 100th birthday.
She was born in 1922 in Waipahu to John and Jane Medeiros. The family later moved to Wahiawa where she went to Leilehua High School where she played softball.
On August 24, 1940, she married the love of her life, Vincent Cordeiro. They moved to Ma'ili where they raised their family of four children, Vincent "Brada" Cordeiro, Agnes Cordeiro, Claudette Lee, and Herman Cordeiro. She has 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Bernice became very active in her church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wai'anae where she helped out with the outreach program. She also volunteered at the Goodwill Store in Wai'anae as she loved volunteering in her community. She loved to bowl and was active in a women's bowling league at Country Lanes Bowling Alley in Waipahu.
Up into her 80's, she still mowed her own lawn and still loves working in her yard and tending to all her plants. She also used to take long daily walks but has slowed down a bit these days. Congratulation Bernice, and may you have many more birthdays!
